Double Walk-Offs and Double Grand Slams: A Wild Day in MLB
By SBA | Published May 1, 2026
Thursday, April 30, 2026, will go down as one of the most bizarre and thrilling days of the early MLB season. From historic walk-offs in Philadelphia to a grand slam barrage in Baltimore, baseball delivered the goods.
Phillies Make Doubleheader History
Winning both games of a doubleheader is hard enough. Walking off both games? That's historic.
The Philadelphia Phillies became the first team in MLB history to win both games of a doubleheader via walk-off, sweeping the San Francisco Giants in dramatic fashion.
After a thrilling comeback in Game 1, the Phillies found themselves in another tight spot in Game 2. This time, it was Alec Bohm playing the hero, delivering a walk-off sacrifice fly to complete the sweep and send the Citizens Bank Park crowd into a frenzy. The Phillies continue to prove they are never out of a game, no matter the inning.
Orioles Crush Astros with Two Grand Slams
Meanwhile, in Baltimore, the Orioles were busy making their own history in Game 1 of their doubleheader against the Houston Astros.
The O's cruised to a resounding 10-3 victory, powered by not one, but two grand slams. Adley Rutschman blew the game open with a bases-loaded shot, and Jeremiah Jackson followed suit later in the game. It marked the first time in franchise history that the Orioles hit two grand slams in a single game.
Houston simply had no answer for Baltimore's relentless offensive attack, as the Orioles continue to solidify their status as an American League powerhouse.
Betting Takeaways
If you're betting baseball right now, a few trends are emerging. The Phillies are showing incredible resilience late in games, making them an intriguing live betting option when trailing. The Orioles' offense is explosive and capable of putting up crooked numbers in a hurry, making their team totals worth a look on a nightly basis.
As the calendar turns to May, the MLB season is officially in full swing.
