Hurricanes One Win Away From Stanley Cup Glory

The Carolina Hurricanes are on the brink of lifting the greatest trophy in sports. After a hard-fought 4-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5, Carolina has taken a 3-2 series lead in what has become an absolute barnburner of a Stanley Cup Final.
Game 6 is set for Sunday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (8 PM ET on ABC). The Hurricanes have the chance to close it out on the road, but as anyone who bets the NHL knows, the fourth win is always the hardest to get — especially against a desperate team in their own building.
"Hurricane Hockey" Takes Over
Game 5 was a masterclass in the suffocating, relentless style that head coach Rod Brind'Amour has instilled in this team. The defining moment came late in the second period when Sebastian Aho — who has been a steadying presence all postseason — tipped a puck off his skates and roofed it under the crossbar in a split second to give Carolina a 3-1 lead.
"It's starting to look more and more like Hurricane hockey," captain Jordan Staal noted after the win.
This series has been completely wild from a betting perspective. Through the first four games, it was the highest-scoring Stanley Cup Final of the 21st century, averaging over 8 goals per game. Vegas took Game 1 (5-4) and Game 2 went to OT (Carolina 4-3), but the Hurricanes have stormed back to win three straight.
The Game 6 Market
Heading into Game 6, the pressure is entirely on Vegas. The Golden Knights will be feeding off the energy of the Fortress, but Carolina's penalty kill — operating at an absurd 91.2% this postseason — has been a massive difference-maker.
If you're looking at the board for Sunday, keep an eye on the total. After the offensive explosions early in the series, Game 5 tightened up significantly. Vegas will have to push the pace to keep their season alive, which could open things up for Carolina's transition game.
The Hurricanes swept the Senators, swept the Flyers, and handled the Canadiens in five games to get here. Now, they just need one more win to complete the ultimate mission.
