Avalanche Dominance Continues: Colorado Takes 2-0 Series Lead, Stays Perfect at 6-0 This Postseason
By SBA | Published May 6, 2026
If there were any doubts about who the team to beat is in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Colorado Avalanche are silencing them quickly. The Avs moved to a perfect 6-0 this postseason after dispatching the Minnesota Wild 5-2 in Game 2 of their Western Conference Second Round series.
After a historic 9-6 scoring explosion in Game 1, Tuesday night's matchup was a more controlled affair, but the result was the same: pure Colorado dominance.
MacKinnon's MVP-Level Play
Nathan MacKinnon is playing on another planet right now. The superstar forward recorded three points in Game 2, capping off his night by icing the game with a power-play goal that extended Colorado's lead to 4-1.
The Avalanche's offensive firepower is simply too much for Minnesota to handle right now. Colorado recorded nine goals in Game 1 and five in Game 2, showcasing an ability to score in bunches and exploit any defensive lapse. When they get on the power play, it's almost a guaranteed high-danger scoring chance.
What's Next for the Wild?
The series now shifts to Minnesota for Games 3 and 4, where the Wild will desperately need to find answers. Goaltending has been a massive issue, as they've allowed 14 goals in just two games. You simply cannot win in the playoffs giving up seven goals a night on average.
Minnesota needs to find a way to slow down the pace, stay out of the penalty box, and force Colorado to play a grinding, physical game. If this turns into a track meet, the Avalanche will win every single time.
Betting Implications
The betting markets have fully bought into the Avalanche hype. Colorado entered the playoffs as the Stanley Cup favorites at +250, and their dominant 6-0 start has only solidified that position.
For Game 2, the Avalanche were heavily favored at -200 on the moneyline, easily cashing for bettors who backed them. As the series moves to Minnesota, expect the lines to tighten slightly with home-ice advantage shifting, but Colorado will likely remain the favorite. Bettors looking for value might want to target player props, specifically MacKinnon points or shots on goal, given his current form.
The Over has also been a lucrative play in this series. Even with a higher total of 6.5 goals, the teams easily cleared it in Game 1 (15 total goals) and pushed past it in Game 2 (7 total goals). With Colorado's offense firing on all cylinders and Minnesota's goaltending struggling, the Over remains in play for Game 3.
